Objective:
To protect a sea wall drainage outlet from waves at high tide.

Solution:
Fernco’s Flap Valve was the chosen solution to protect the pipe from backflow flooding and to withstand the demanding environmental conditions.

A recent project on the island of Palau was successfully undertaken by McConnell Dowell to install a new stormwater outlet. The project involved integrating
the outlet through an existing sea wall and be positioned above the high tide mark. A solution was needed that would be able to protect the drainage system from
backflow flooding and be able to withstand the demanding environmental conditions of the island.

Fernco’s wall-mounted flap valve was chosen as the ideal solution to prevent backflow flooding from occurring up the pipe, that could lead to flooding issues further up the system.

Fernco’s flap valves are made from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and 316 stainless steel materials making it strong and durable to withstand harsh environmental conditions. These materials allow the product to have a lifespan of a 100 years making it the ideal choice for the contractors to complete this project.

The McConnell Dowell team reported a smooth and efficient installation process allowing the project to be completed in the planned time frame. They expressed that the product lived up to their expectations and would use them again for future projects.

Pipe and Infrastructure are the New Zealand distributor of Fernco Flap Valves and were essential o helping this project being delivered on time.
