Hydroflow Australia played a crucial role in an environmental protection project at a freight depot in Ingleburn, Sydney. The depot required a reliable solution to prevent runoff into a local wetland in the event of a fire or hazardous spill.
A large 800mm concrete stormwater pipe was directly discharging into a nearby wetland, which served as a valuable ecosystem. The risk of contaminated runoff from the depot posed an environmental threat, particularly in the event of an industrial fire or accidental spill. To safeguard the local flora and fauna, an effective stormwater containment solution was essential.

To address this challenge, Hydroflow working in collaboration with Urgent Plumbing Solutions and Reece Civil Gregory Hills, supplied an 800mm Fernco HDPE Penstock with an actuator on the depot’s headwall. The penstock was integrated with a building control system, enabling automatic operation during a fire or spill emergency. This ensured that contaminated runoff could be contained, preventing pollutants from reaching the delicate wetland ecosystem.
The successful implementation of this solution resulted in a highly satisfied client, Urgent Plumbing Solutions, and a secure environmental safeguard for the local wetland. The system now ensures that, in the event of a warehouse fire or hazardous spill, runoff will be effectively contained, protecting the creek’s ecosystem and supporting long-term sustainability.
